The majority of my woodturning is polychromatic / segmented which simply means they are made of two or more pieces of wood and usually different colors and species of wood being combined to create multicolored pieces. Occasionally I will use carving, coloring and embellishments to achieve the desired effects.
My turnings are a synthesis of pottery and glass, using the
classic shapes of Oriental, European and Native American forms. As a number of turners have said
“the Chinese and Native Americans have been copying my designs for thousands of years.”
Segmented woodturning is an art form with few limitations. I can create just
about any shape or size and by arranging different wood species, the surface designs /
patterns I can create are unlimited. A
few pieces of wood or thousands can go into a design, and it can take a
few hours to over a hundred to create and finish the piece.
